Letter practice

image

I recently bought the write start on my kindle. It was exactly what I needed right now, I’ve been trying to work with Mary on her writing without much success.

Her writing and reading have progressed much faster than I ever expected them to and I realized that I need to start teaching her how to write letters properly before she starts developing bad habits.

Thr book covers everything from scribbling to storytelling and talks about the importance of each stage. Even in this digital age it’s important to me that our kids be proficient writers.

We traced the letter on our alphabet poster and then she practiced drawing it in the cornmeal.

The book is full of fun ideas, Mary and Luke have both enjoyed trying them.

Yarn Along- January 18th

I haven’t participated in Ginny’s yarn along in ages, I’ve been doing tons of knitting lately.

image

I took a little break from my shalom (which is finally coming along, after frogging the first part 3 times) to knit my persistent little man a frog. He has been asking about it since he picked it out of Knitted Toy Tales over Christmas. He really loves it and has been taking his frog and snake everywhere.

I’ve been on the library waiting list for Little Girls, Big Style for months but I finally got it! I am going to order this one from Amazon, it’s a fabulous book! I have sewed Mary a Valentine’s skirt and top from there already.

Menchies!

Having kids with dairy sensitivities means that we can’t go out for ice cream as a family. I was so excited when I heard about a new frozen yogurt store opening that offered dairy free options!!

(that’s mine at the top on the right, the plain boring one.)

They have a whole bunch of flavours to choose from and a topping station with every type of topping you can imagine!

My kids were pretty much in heaven.

Three months!

image

It’s hard to believe three months have passed since you joined our family Mr. Alex, it is so cliche but it really does feel like you’ve always been here.

image

You are getting bigger and bigger by the day, you are over 15bs now and just starting to be too long for your 12 month sleepers.

image

Despite the smiles and occasional giggle we get out of you you are still a pretty angry little guy. You are definitely starting to be interested in whats going on around you, and you really love to watch Mary and Luke play. Sometimes you’ll even sit in your bouncy chair for 10 minutes without crying!!

image

Your first road trip was a huge success. We got you a new big car seat and in the hopes that it would help you scream less and sure enough you like it! We only stopped twice on the way there and once on the way back! Rockstar baby!!

You slept through your first Christmas morning (which let us open presents in peace!), next year will be much more exciting.

You really loved your poppa and had a lot of conversations with him, when you are in a good mood you talk and coo and smile like crazy. You also started holding onto toys a little bit this month, you especially love the octopus, just like your brother and sister did. You can get your fingers in your mouth now and enjoy chewing on them, you had a tooth break through over Christmas so I think chewing on your fingers helps your sore gums.

Here’s to getting older and a much happier fourth month!

2012

I have high hopes for 2012. It isn’t going to take much for it to surpass 2011 considering I spent the first nine months being terribly ill and the last three dealing with a rather irritable baby.

I love the beginning of the year, it is so tempting to sit and make all sorts of goals and aspirations. There are so many things I want to learn how to do and so many things I want to do with my kids. I tried to sit and make a list but as my list grew longer and longer I realized that this was not going to work.

I sat down and started to pray about what I should be doing rather than what I wanted to do, and as I meditated and asked the Holy Spirit for guidance it didn’t take me long to know exactly what the focus our year needs to be.

Venite Adoremus

“Oh come let us adore Him.” This is what this this year is going to be for our family. We are going to really invite Jesus into our daily family life and join our year with the liturgical year of the Church.

To start out Hubby and I have committed to 20 minutes of spiritual reading every day. I am reading Mother Angelica’s Private and Pithy Lessons from the Scriptures and he is reading Matthew Kelly’s Rediscover Catholicism.

I really feel like this is exactly what God wants for our family for this year, to focus on learning more about Him and His Church.
